Shape Inference
Shape inference is the process by which you infer the shape of the intermediate layers given the input dimensions, the model connectivity, and the layer types. All is based on simple arithmetic manipulation of the input dimensions along with the layer parameters. For example, for the Convolution layer the following formula defines how to compute the output shape given the input shape and the layer paraamters:
- Input:
$(N, C_{in}, H_{in}, W_{in})$
- Filter:
$(C_{out}, C_{in}, H_f, W_f)$
- Output:
$(N, C_{out}, H_{out}, W_{out})$
where

The input models to Benanza do not have shape information, and Benanza traverses the graph, performs the shape inference, and augments the shape with the inferred shape information.
Create Graph
An easy way to view the model is by visualizing as a graph. A graph can be created of the model after shape inference using
benanza dot --model_path //ResNet50-v1 --format dot -o /tmp/resnet.dot --batch_size=256
This will create a plot of the Resnet50-v1 model using batch size 256.
The output is a PDF (if the dot
tool is available) and will generate a figure like (Note you may need to scroll down to view the graph)
